Progress is made, iPhoneDummies is born...

So today in a few hours, most of which was spent discussing a name for our venture, which actually doesn't mean too much, because whenever I buy an application on the App Store I can't say I have ever looked at who wrote the application.

But after a long time of having a laugh and trying to use our kids names to make up a company name, which by the way was pretty poor (kara, akar, kaar), then adding our initials which made it even worse (Jakart), don't tell me what it sounds like cause I figured that part out.

Then the light bulb sign came on and seemed pretty apt iPhoneDummies which is pretty much what we are, myself in IT but would not exactly call myself a developer, and Mr T is in the finance industry. Considering how wrong this could go, it seemed liked the perfectly name.

Better still the gmail account was available, the domain was available and the blog was available, so we have a name :-)

The only downside is that naturally iPhoneDummies would make you think that the website would be a site to assist new iPhone owners, but alas this is not the case, but we figured its not a bad thing if people end up reading the blog even though they never meant to visit. So if a search engine bought you here and you expected some help, SORRY.

Slight problem

So the iPhone SDK only runs on an Intel Mac, which is fine for me, but Mr T only has a PC, so it looks like his investment just increased, the search for a used Mac has began, getting a bargain on eBay seems pretty unlikely as used Intel Mac still sell for good money.

Let the bidding begin...

2 idiots and 2 iphones

So this could be the start of nothing, but we figured we would document the journey anyway.

So I watched the iPhone 3.0 preview and just like the 2.0 preview I was blown away (common phrase used in those videos). So I sent the link to my iPhone buddy T and told him to take a look at whats coming.

After this I starting thinking that I needed to develop an iPhone app, much like I thought after the 2.0 preview video. Then I get an email from my mate T who is by no means a developer saying I been up till 3 in the morning looking up this stuff and we should create an application. Considering he highly motivated and me doing this on my own would never happen I said why not, the cost is minimal, bar the time we would have to put into it.

And thus the story begins...
